We have been home from Paris for a few days now. We've managed to catch up on our sleep (I think!) and thought it'd be nice to have the girls back over to the house for a trip on the snowmobiles. We just had a nice dusting of brand new snow.
We packed things into my backpack (Extra socks, undies, juice boxes, snacks and Giselle's special stuffed Bee, my keys, bandaids, etc.. y'know the usual stuff us Mom's need to carry around.) I secured my pack on and made sure that all of the snowmobiles were all gassed up and we headed out into the trails behind the house.
As the afternoon went on it began to snow a bit harder than anticipated on the news. I was getting worried we'd not back it home safely with the rate the flakes were falling. "What do I do?" I was panicked on the inside. Trying to keep my cool.. I said to the girls "Let's explore a little faster, I saw an ice fishing shed back there (photo above!) there must be a small cabin nearby where we can stay for the night." They were all a bit concerned.. but I tried to assure them we were safe. We did need shelter and fast.. luckily, just as a I thought there was a cabin nearby.
We all got off our sleds and looked around the cabin. Seemed as if this was a huntning cabin of shorts. Looked as though no one had been here for a while. All we could do was to break in. I leaned against the door trying to push it open. I took off my backpack and tried to slip something between the door to try and jarr the lock... bingo, it worked!
After getting into the cabin we looked around to see if there was anyone actually there - no such luck. Next, I knew we needed to make a fire. Great, no logs. "Girls, we need to go out and see if we could find some logs or some kindling."
The girls were great helpers and brought in lots of logs. Soon we'd have a fire and actually be warm!
We all managed to get the logs in the fireplace and in the woodstove. I helped Ivy out of her snowsuit while Maelie and Giselle both got theirs off. Time to start the fires!

We were able to look around the cabin and see if there was anything fun for us to do or better yet.. food.
Maelie and Giselle found a little wardrobe to sneak into!
The snow was really falling now.. I'm worried we may end up snowed in..
The sun was setting and it was time to see if I could rummage and see if I could find anything.
The girls sat and played with the letters on the scrabble board while I looked for something else for them to maybe play with later on.
I found some canned chili and beans in one of the set of drawers by the window. They should do the trick.. I think.
We all sat down together and ate our bowls of chili and tried to not look out at the window. The snow had really begun to pile up at this point and even I was nervous. The batteries on my cell phone were close to dead and my cell service was close to none now.. maybe I'd find a radio or a CB around the cabin and I could radio into someone.. anyone.
I tried to shovel a small path out back so we could at least get to the outhouse.. nope, way too heavy.. and I broke the shovel.
It was getting late and the snow was really piled high outside. We had two fires going and found a nice cozy bed to sleep in for the night. Tomorrow we'd worry about getting out of here. Tonight.. we sleep.
